Mission-critical services
Explore how personnel in public safety, utilities, rail, ports and other industries benefit from 3GPP-based push-to-x and mobile data services when migrating from legacy Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks. Learn about future mission-critical applications, technologies and the organizational and operational aspects involved.
Explore new mission-critical services for users
Learn how public safety organizations can benefit from 3GPP-based push-to-x and mobile data services, improving everyday work operations for first responders in the field and their colleagues in the command centers. The same types of services can also be used by utilities, rail, ports, harbors, and other industries in their daily operations. Explore the value these new 3GPP-based services offer to all professionals and learn about the new services and innovations 5G can unlock.
Experience the voice quality of 3GPP-based mission-critical push-to-talk
Current LMR networks use narrowband voice, usually at 4-7kbps, providing lower voice quality than 3GPP-based narrowband 2G and 3G networks. However, voice codecs (the audio technology used for mobile voice calls) have evolved significantly since commercial 2G networks were first introduced. With 4G and 5G networks, we now have wideband HD voice and even up to HD voice+ quality. The same technology is also available in 3GPP-based mission-critical applications such as push-to-talk – ideal for use in public safety, utilities, transport and other industries.
Listen to the audio clips below to experience the quality difference between these voice codecs. Music is one of the most technically challenging examples of audio to transfer in real-time, so this is used as an example of audio shared within a voice call. It could, for example, be background music in a call queue, pre-recorded voice announcements or ambient listening during a mission-critical rescue operation.
