The challenge
Ooredoo Kuwait established a clear digital strategy focusing on providing its customers a great customer experience through digital channels to find, buy and use services online without the need to visit shops and wait in queues. Ooredoo Kuwait wants to offer a digital experience by simplifying customers’ onboarding with E-SIM technology, and ultimately shift to 5G with competitive marketing strategies for a variety of 5G products.
To achieve this vision Ooredoo Kuwait sought to eliminate the legacy billing pain points. In addition, online charging needed to be consolidated for effective integration with digital channels. The underlying requirement was to improve consistency across customer experience, products and services.

The solution
Part of a five-year group frame agreement, Ericsson BSS solutions are the strategic choice for Ooredoo Group to drive its digital transformation strategy, innovation and boost customer satisfaction. To meet Ooredoo Group’s strategic objective and achieve its digital vision, Ooredoo Kuwait partnered with Ericsson to evolve its billing solution by upgrading it to Ericsson Billing and consolidate its online charging solutions to Ericsson Charging.
Implementing Ericsson Billing has significantly improved Ooredoo Kuwait’s customer experiences and increased operational efficiency. Ericsson Billing offers Ooredoo Kuwait a low-risk, high-reward way to collect and secure revenue streams and capitalize on business possibilities in both traditional telecommunication and digital services, such as 5G and Internet of Things (IoT).
Ericsson Charging enabled Ooredoo Kuwait to consolidate its legacy charging solutions, integrate with digital channels using standard APIs. The business can offer customers a superior digital experience, customers can subscribe to any offerings or build their own bundle and monitor their usage by a touch of a button.
The result
Considering the needs for platform evolution, Ericsson implemented its Billing software on Ooredoo Kuwait’s cloud platform of choice, addressing fully the redundancy and security requirements. The deployed solution now supports high availability, geographical redundancy and implements an information security policy, offering best-in-class billing security.
The consolidation of real-time offerings in Ericsson Charging empowered Ooredoo Kuwait to innovate and launch new digital products with shorter time to market. The implemented solutions are in line with the digitalization ambitions for Ooredoo Kuwait and Kuwait Vision 2035. Ooredoo Kuwait can leverage the implemented solutions to deliver superior digital 5G services to its customers.
Given the pandemic period through 2021, several challenges faced the project delivery team. However, with Ericsson’s agile project delivery methods, and availability of remote global resources, Ooredoo and Ericsson managed to run the project smoothly, meeting tight deadlines with high standards of quality.
