Communication for All

‘Communication for all’ is a key part of Ericsson’s strategy, marketing and corporate responsibility program. It demonstrates how Ericsson’s core business brings social and economic benefit to society, and aligns with Ericsson’s belief that communication is a basic human need.

2007 was an important milestone in the mobile communications sector as worldwide subscriptions passed the 3 billion mark. That figure is expected to rise to over 5.5 billion by 2012 and 90 percent of that growth will come from emerging markets. Ericsson believes that providing communication for all results in the economic, social and environmental development of society while at the same time supports our core business in high growth emerging markets.

Creating value
Communication for all focuses on three main areas where telecommunications (ranging from simple voice calls to full mobile broadband services) bring real value to society and can make a difference.

Telecommunications can:

  • Close the digital divide by reducing the gap between those who have access to information and communication technology and those that do not.

  • Build society, for example by supporting the development of social infrastructure such as education and health services.

  • Boost Gross domestic Product (GdP).

  • Help to offset the physical effects of climate change by creating travel substitution possibilities and the “virtualization” of many other products and services.
